In the kitchen ragged pizza moons await their plates

Cm+9 Eaug3 E

The abstract in the bathroom sink transcends and decorates

Bm C7sus4 F#m E D9

Spider webs are ceiling clouds, or wisps of streaked light hair

F G Am

Their loveseat comforts Jimmy and Monona.

The dusty loom back by the bedroom door is shadow cast

The clay chards by the broken kiln have formed an hourglass

For now the crumpled power bills lie by a bed of brass,

the last thing on the mind of dark Monona.

G Am7

The TV flickers soundlessly, dog’s up but nothing’s wrong

F6 A

They laugh together easily, like they just shared a song

BbMAJ7

(6/4) They’re strobing into love

Gm Cm

The nervous blue tattoos their silhouettes on through

D7

A window chilled with morning dew

Eb F G

And continues into the summer light.

Is that rushing shadow a reflection or a rat?

The fireplace is stained with tar where Duraflames once sat.

Beige shoes lie akimbo scuffed in unexpected scraps

In the loveseat Jim comforts Monona.

The TV flickers soundlessly, dog’s up but nothing’s found

They laugh together easily; they make a single sound

They’re strobing into love

The nervous blue tattoos

His silhouette on through

A window chilled with morning dew

And continues into the summer light.

Back in town, newspapers rest against a darkened door

The customers at Andy’s bar aren’t buying any more

The scene where art and life collide is not a pretty sight

Though the TV burns a halo ‘round Monona.

The TV flickers soundlessly, dog’s sleeping, doesn’t stir

Their clothes are sitting in two piles, on imitation fur

They’re sleeping into daylight

He’s toss and turning all night

He’s running out for sure

Running out of time

Eb Dm C Em7 Fmaj7

And running out on Mono - oh - na.
