What I Need is Your Smile

Words and Music © 2002 Robert Edgar

What I need is your smile

Life’s too long without it, I’ll wait fore’er.

If time gets exhausted, how would I prepare?

Bitter words will chill your heart.

Build up your love; time now to start.

For what I need is your smile.

What plants need is to bloom.

Buds on a flower are silent plumes.

Quietly waiting like darkened rooms.

All barren tombs if no flower;

But, with its scent, fully empowered

For what plants need is to bloom.

Without you, to whom will I sing?

If I can’t sing to you, I’ll sing to the waves.

If I can’t sing to you, I’ll sing to invention.

If I can’t sing to you, I’ll sing to Shiva.

If I can’t sing to you, I’ll sing at the walls.

Beauty is lost to anger and science.

Harmony’s arches require reliance.

What we need is a heart

One shared should do it, cause the chill to go

Warming your cheeks; set your eyes aglow.

Senses start knowing to feel,

Cynical life, learning what is real.

Don’t let grace depart…

Attract it again, with your smile, a bloom,

And our heart.
